- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 large egg (beaten for egg wash)
- Coarse turbinado sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, mix strawberry pie filling with lemon zest and set aside.
- Roll out one pie crust to about 1/8-inch thickness and cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter. Repeat with the second crust.
- Brush half of the hearts with beaten egg, place a heaping teaspoon of filling in the center, and cover with another heart shape.
- Seal edges using fingers and fork, cut vents on top, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 12 minutes until golden brown; cool before serving.
