  • 6 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 4 sticks unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 2/3 cup strawberry preserves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Slowly add hot coffee while stirring.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed; pour into prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 30–40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a rack.
  6. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy; gradually mix in powdered sugar and strawberry preserves until fluffy.
  7. Once cakes are cool, frost the top layer generously with strawberry buttercream and decorate with chocolate-covered strawberries.
