Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups uncooked short-grain rice
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 nori seaweed sheet
  • 1 can (7 oz) Spam
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp potato starch (katakuriko)
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice according to your rice cooker instructions.
  2. Once cooked, mix in the toasted sesame seeds.
  3. Cut the nori sheet into six strips.
  4. Slice Spam into six pieces and fry in oil until browned.
  5. Prepare sauce by combining soy sauce, sake, rice vinegar, and sugar in the pan used for frying Spam until thickened.
  6. Shape musubi by layering rice and Spam in a cling-wrapped tin, then wrap with nori.
