  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 cups warm water (for boiling)
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • Coarse pretzel salt (for topping)
  • 6 tbsp melted unsalted butter (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine whole milk, water, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a mixing bowl or stand mixer, mix flour, brown sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter; mix until combined.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Punch down the risen dough, divide into six pieces, and roll into ropes; twist into pretzel shapes.
  6. Boil water in a saucepan; add baking soda and carefully dip each pretzel for about 30 seconds.
  7. Place on prepared sheet, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with salt, and bake for about 8 minutes until golden brown.
