  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter (room temperature, cubed)
  • 1 tsp clear vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 Tbsp seedless raspberry jam (optional)
  • 2 packs Wilton Candy Hearts (for decoration)
  • a variety of pink and white sprinkles (if desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar using an electric mixer until fluffy.
  4. Add egg whites and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Gradually alternate adding dry ingredients with milk until just mixed.
  6. Incorporate pink gel food coloring to achieve desired shade.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for about 25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool before frosting between layers and around the outside.
