Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by warming milk to about 110°F, stirring in sugar and yeast, and letting it froth for 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt; create a well and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir until shaggy.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until doubled.
  5. Prepare caramel topping by melting butter in a saucepan with brown sugar and heavy cream; pour into a greased baking dish.
  6. Make filling by combining softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth.
  7. Roll out dough into a rectangle, spread filling evenly, roll tightly into a log, slice into pieces.
  8. Arrange rolls cut-side down in the caramel topping; cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F; bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly before inverting onto a serving platter to enjoy warm.
