- 6 to 7 cups sliced apples (peeled and cored)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup ice water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter until crumbly.
- In a separate bowl, mix eggs, ice water, and lemon juice. Combine with the flour mixture until dough forms. Divide and chill for 30 minutes.
- Toss sliced apples with sugars, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla. Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Roll out the larger dough piece into a pan-sized sheet and fill with the apple mixture. Cover with the second rolled-out dough piece and cut vents.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely before glazing.
